One of my favorite summer activities is exploring flea markets. They are full of random and interesting items sometimes worthy of a raised eyebrow, a chuckle, or an immediate purchase. Plus, if you are lucky, they usually have some great food vendors to keep you satisfied and ready to rummage.
Memorial Day weekend, I went to one of the first flea markets I ever visited as a child – Shady Hollow Flea Market near Detroit Lakes, MN. In recent years, especially as my love of DIY has grown, I have visited this flea market again and again.
Last year, one of my most memorable purchases included several adorable outfits for my baby before he was born! I was pregnant at the time and probably waddling from booth to booth, but I would not miss a chance to flea for the world. My sister jokingly held up a onesie to my big belly and asked, “Do you think this will fit him?” Either way, we ended up buying him some pretty cute, gently used clothes.
My most recent trip was a lot shorter, but I tried to get a few photos. Some of them I lost, thanks to my curious baby smacking my computer keyboard. I thought I would share the few that I did get!
This little dresser/cupboard combo was definitely cute, but not salvageable by any of my means. I love browsing the furniture for any potential projects.
I have a serious love affair with vintage metal bed frames. If I had the room, I would redo these and keep them for myself! Bonus points for the Christmas Coke Santa 🙂
I think it is so great to see crafters at these flea markets as well. I wish I had gotten pictures of the handmade signs available there that had vintage book-style text. They are a big home decor trend right now, and the vendors did a beautiful job. It made me want to create one of those signs for our home!
